AFFF and ABF (Foam) Fire Suppression Systems
AFFF (Aqueous Film Forming Foam) was developed in the 1960s by the US Navy. It has recently emerged as one of the best "green" replacements for ozone-depleting Halon (which is no longer allowed by the FIA or SFI) It is non-conductive, non-corrosive, and ozone-friendly. It cleans up easily by rinsing with water. ABF foam is a variant of AFFF, originally formulated to fight kitchen grease fires (Type F). ABF foam has proven to be extremely effective at extinguishing fires fueled by other hydrocarbons (gasoline, alcohol, oil, etc).
