The String is critical to the Smart Strings 4-Wheel Toe Alignment Kit (formerly Pegasus Part No. 3180). The string is the parallel reference line on either side of the car. It is Item 10 in the SmartStrings instruction sheet.

The string gets the most abuse when setting up and tearing down the Smart Strings kit. Careless handling will result in knots which can interfere with your measurements (at best) -- or leave you with a tangled mess that you can't even use!
