This patch cable can solve some headaches when mounting the original AiM GPS Module (Part No. MC-312).
The antenna cable of the original GPS module must be kept far away from sources of electromagnetic (EM) interference such as ignition coils, alternators, and electric motors. In some installations, such as on motorcycles, there is no way to avoid running a cable close to these EM sources. This CAN cable is much less sensitive to interference than the antenna cable (the cable between the antenna and the module). The solution is to mount the GPS module near the antenna and to use this CAN cable to get past any EM sources. The cable has a male 712 5-pin CAN connector on one end and a female 712 5-pin CAN connector on the other end.
The original version GPS Module is identified by the separate "module" and "antenna" sections, connected by a cable. The revised AiM GPS05 Module (Part No. MC-340) does not have a separate module section -- everything is built into the antenna. The GPS05 does not need this cable.
