The GPS08 module from AiM further expands the track mapping abilities of AiM data loggers and data logging dashes. In addition, the GPS08 allows lap timing (even split times) without the use of trackside beacons, storing data for up to 50 tracks with up to 5 splits per track. The GPS08 can also calculate and log speed, lateral and longitudinal g-forces, and of course vehicle position.
Simple to install: Just connect the CAN cable to your dash and mount the GPS antenna. This configuration contains all of the GPS electronics inside the antenna. This solves the RFI issue that the original GPS Module had, so cable routing is less critical. The GPS unit willl even automatically configure itself during start-up!
The GPS08 connects via a 5-pin 712 screw-in conncetor and is compatible with AiM MXL auto dashes, MyChron4 kart dashes, EVO3 data loggers, and SmartyCam HD GP 2.2. Choose a cable length to suit your installation: 1.3m (4 ft) is appropriate for most formula cars, karts, and bikes. 4m (13 ft) is long enough for sedans.
MXL Pro Note: The MXL Pro 05 dash requires the 22-pin MXL Pro Auxiliary Harness (not included) for CAN connections.
MXL2 / MXG / MXP / MXS Note: The current MX-Series (using Race Studio 3 for setup) can use the GPS09 module. (MXm has internal GPS and does not use an external module.)
MyChron4 Note: The GPS08 module draws power from MyChron kart dashes. This can reduce the amount of battery run time available if the dash is not connected to an external power source. The battery in the MyChron e-Box can also power the GPS08 module, eliminating the need for external power. (MyChron5 has internal GPS and does not use an external module.)
EVO Note: The EVO4 uses a different GPS antenna with a dedicated connector. EVO4S and EVO5 can use the GPS09 Module.
SmartyCam Note: Only the SmartyCam HD GP 2.2 takes this version. SmartyCam HD, SmartyCam HD GP, and SmartyCam HD 2.1 all require the GPS09B Module (Part No. MC-756), which has a 4-pin connector.
