Weber 48 IDA Carburetor

The Weber IDA dual-throat downdraft is an all-out racing carburetor with an impeccable competition history stretching all the way back to Italy in the 1950s up to drag racing VW engines, with major stops on Porsche factory racing engines and championship-winning Shelby Cobras.

The 48 IDA is a monster carburetor that can be tamed for use on relatively small engines. A pair of 48 IDA carburetors can turn a 1600 VW boxer into a serious racing engine. With the right jetting, a 2-liter engine running dual 48 IDAs could reasonably be driven on the street.

The IDA is supplied without a cold-start choke mechanism, which means better airflow at the expense of cold driveability. Because 48 IDA carburetors flow so much air, accurate synchronizarion of multiple carburetors is critical. A poorly-designed or ill-maintained linkage will ruin an otherwise perfect tune.
