Overly cooled oil robs an engine of power and can lead to increased wear and sludge formation. An oil thermostat allows the oil to bypass the cooler until proper temperature is reached.
This model has fairly large internal passages and female-threaded ports. The ports are available with either 3/8 NPT (for small engines or transmissions) or 1/2 NPT (for larger engines) threads. The female NPT ports make it easy to adapt to just about any installation. The thermostat opens at 180°F/82°C +/-10°F or +/-3°C.
We also offer Oil Thermostats with Male AN Fittings (Part No. 1226-Size), which have larger internal passages and greater flow capacity. They are more expensive, but they do not require adapters in most installations.
