The 1555/Q spring compressor from Beta Tools makes quick work of changing MacPherson strut cartridges. Simply remove the strut assembly from the car, hook the jaws over the spring at each end, and turn the feed screw.

The sturdy jaws hook securely over the spring coils for safety. The 13mm hex at one end of the screw can be driven with a hand wrench or an air ratchet (maximum torque 130 lb-ft / 180 Nm - never use an impact gun*). This tool is designed to be mounted in a bench vise when used.

Jaw opening range: 65 - 354mm (2 9/16" - 13 5/16"). Spring diameter range 80 - 195mm (3" - 7 11/16"

* Safety Notes: Never use an impact gun to drive this tool. A safety breakaway pin will prevent the screw from turning if the maximum torque is exceeded. Only compress the spring enough for removal / installation. Compressing more than the minimum stores more potential energy than necessary, increasing the risk of damage or injury.
