The Weber IDF dual-throat downdraft carburetor is an excellent choice for many applications ranging from modified VW-based engines to European sports cars. A single 44IDF is a great choice for a built 1500-2000cc engine. Twin 44IDFs can feed higher-horsepower 1500-2200cc engines. The European Ford Escort 2000 RS rally car used two 44IDFs on the 2.0L engine.
The 44IDF is supplied without a choke mechanism. This makes it better able to handle dusty environments, but cold driveability suffers. It is recommended for racing or warm-weather "pleasure motoring" only.
