This is the same internal spring used in the Redback Performance Precision Silicone Hose Cutter (Part No. 3158-500). The spring is responsible for withdrawing the blade from the hose when you open the cutter. If you find yourself having to manually lift the cutting arm, you may have a worn or broken spring.
