This special washer gets installed between the two VW-Type Pinion Shaft Nuts (Part No. 1410-A34-2, sold separately) in early Webster and Hewland Mk-Series transaxles.
After the gear stack and bearing carrier are installed, the first pinion shaft nut is installed and torqued. Next, this washer is installed and finally the second pinion shaft nut is installed and tightened against the washer as a jam nut. The special tab fits into a groove between the splines on the pinion shaft, helping to prevent the two nuts from rotating.
Sold individually, one required. Not used with later Webster (Model 400) or Hewland (Mk 5 or later) transaxles, or when using a castellated pinion shaft nut with a cotter pin.
