Installing a piston-and-rod assembly can be a tricky business. While you're busy keeping the rings compressed and sliding the piston into the cylinder, the bottom end of the connecting rod flops around unsupervised, just looking for a precision-machined surface to bump into.
ARP Rod Bolt Extensions offer an easy solution. Simply thread these long aluminum posts onto your connecting rod bolts before installing the piston in the bore. Their extended length gives you an easy handle to grab before the rod gets too close to the crankshaft, and the tapered points help to guide them past the crank pin. Aluminum construction makes them less likely to damage the crank journal if they do make contact.
This size is designed to fit rod bolts with 3/8-24 threads. Black anodizing is color-coded for quick size identification. Sold in pairs (enough for one connecting rod).
FF1600 Builders Note: Although the FF1600 engine uses 3/8-24 rod bolts, the connecting rod design does not lend itself to the use of these extensions. You can adapt it to the FF1600 engine by installing a 3/8-24 stud in each extension. Thread the stud into the connecting rod to use the extension.
