Overly-cooled oil robs horsepower and shortens the life of your oil. An oil thermostat allows cold oil to bypass the cooler until it is up to operating temperature. This dual-purpose filter head from the oil cooling experts at Setrab incorporates a thermostatic valve into the filter head, eliminating extra hardware and leak points.
The aluminum filter head has four M22x1.5 female metric ports that accept any Setrab ProLine M22 plumbing adapters (sold separately). The "Left to Right" flow on this model refers to the flow from the engine to the cooler (looking at the front of the filter head as mounted, hot oil enters from the left - filtered oil exits to the right - cooled oil returns from the right - and returns to the engine to the left).
When the oil is cool, it enters the head and passes through the filter before being allowed to return directly to the engine. Once the oil reaches 180° F (80° C), the bypass closes, forcing the filtered oil to go through the oil cooler before returning to the engine. Note that this filter head should never be used in conjunction with another engine oil thermostat.
This filter head accepts any spin-on filter with 3/4-16 threads and O-ring diameters between 2.13" ID and 3" OD (54mm ID - 77mm OD). Includes mounting bracket and bracket-to-head hardware (mounting the assembly to your vehicle requires three 1/4" / 6mm screws or bolts which are not included).
