The Tillett W5 is a premium competition-style seat designed for purpose-built racing cars that don't require an FIA-certified seat (this includes most Formula and Sports Racing / Prototype classes in Club Racing). It is also a great choice when building a racing simulator. The W5 is based on the W1i model, but in a more reclined 45-degree layback version. The hand-laid fiberglass shell is contoured for all-around support without restricting arm movement.

Adding the W5 shell to a tube-frame or aluminum monococque provides the driver with much more comfortable support than plain bent aluminum sheet metal could ever provide. Two lap belt slots and one sub strap slot all have an added grommet to protect the webbing of your 5- or 6-point racing harness. The 45 degree seatback angle is somewhat upright compared to some formula cars, but is quite a bit more reclined than most sedans.

Note that this seat does not have any mounting provisions designed in. The fabricator/installer must come up with their own mounting solution. Tillett recommends two mounting points near the front edge of the bottom and two on the sides near the shoulders (in the absence of a full back frame support).

The structural fiberglass shell has a black gelcoat finish all around. No padding or upholstery is included, as most average-sized drivers (up to about 220 pounds or 36 inch waist jeans size) will find the W5 very comfortable as a bare shell. Weighs approximately 2kg (4.4 lb). Designed and manufactured in the UK. Not FIA homologated.
