The Tillett W1i is a premium competition-style seat designed for performance and trackday cars that don't require FIA certification. The W1i is based on the popular B5 model, but without a headrest. The glass-reinforced carbon fiber shell is contoured to leave the shoulders free for unhindered steering, and the low-top design looks at home in open vintage sports cars such as the Lotus Super 7 and replicas.
Like all Tillett auto racing seats, the W1i draws on extensive experience in karting, where the seat is a working part of the suspension and must be a perfect fit to the driver. While other brands start with a rectangular shell and fill it with padding to fit the driver, the shell of the W1i is contoured to fit the driver without any excess padding. This allows more contact for better control, while also allowing the driver to sit lower than most other brands.
The W1i is one of the narrowest Tillett seats (just 44cm at the widest part of the rolled lip edge), but for the most cramped cockpits Tillett also offers an "Edges Off" option which shaves a full 4cm from the width. Note that this option makes the seat a little less forgiving when getting in and out. The rolled edge also contributes some fatigue resistance, so the "Edges On" version should be chosen if at all possible.
Two lap belt slots and one sub strap slot allow the use of a 4-, 5-, or 6-point autocross or racing harness (not recommended for use with OEM-type 3-point seat belts). This version has the optional reinforcing back frame integrated into the shell for strength and ease of mounting. Choose bottom-mount (315mm fore-and-aft bolt spacing) or side-mount.
The genuine carbon fiber shell exposes the clearcoated carbon weave all around. No padding or upholstery is included, as most average-sized drivers (up to about 220 pounds or 36 inch waist jeans size) will find the W1i very comfortable as a bare shell. Weighs just 3.6kg (7.9 lb). Designed and manufactured in the UK. Not FIA homologated.
