A fuel scavenge or "make-up" tank is an important addition to your racing fuel injection system. It works like a dry sump oil tank, holding a relatively tall, narrow column of fuel over the outlet fitting. This makes it less likely that the fuel pump will starve due to fuel slosh when cornering or braking. This round design also points the two inlet fittings at the side of the tank to de-aerate the fuel as it spins down the sides.
Install the tank between your fuel cell and your fuel injection pressure pump. Your feed or transfer pump moves fuel from the fuel cell to the tank. If the transfer pump starves due to fuel sloshing in the cell, the 1 liter (1 quart) reserve volume of fuel inside the tank will continue to feed the pressure pump, preventing misfires as well as pump damage.
This aluminum tank has two side inlets (one from the cell, one return from the fuel rail) with 6AN male fittings. The bottom outlet (to the injection pump) is 8AN male. A 6AN male fitting is provided on the top of the tank for a return line to the fuel cell. Mounting base measures 4 1/4" x 4 1/4". Tank body is 4" diameter x 5 1/2" tall.
