Replace your main bearing cap bolts with high-strength ARP main studs for improved engine life under the most demanding conditions!
Main studs locate the main bearing caps more securely than bolts alone, which means less tendency for the caps to walk and fret the mating surfaces. Studs also provide more accurate and consistent clamping force because the fastener does not twist when you apply your torque wrench. Studs only get installed once (rather than at every rebuild), which reduces the chances of damage to the female threads in the block.
ARP main studs are made from 8740 chrome moly steel, heat-treated to 200,000 psi tensile strength with J-form threads that are rolled (not cut) after heat treatment (not before) for unmatched strength and precision.
This set fits FE-Series big-block Ford V8 engines (390 through 428 CID). Includes 8 main studs with matching hardened washers and 12-point nuts, 2 main bolts*, and a packet of ARP assembly lube.
* Note: Installing main studs in the #5 main bearing web causes interference with the oil pan. This kit solves that interference issue by including bolts instead of studs for the #5 main cap. If you prefer a kit with all studs, we also offer the standard ARP Main Stud Kit for Ford FE-Series Big Blocks (Part No. ARP155-5401) which contains studs for all five caps. Note that the "all stud" kit requires modification to the #5 main bearing cap in order to clear the oil pan. This modification requires a mill with a radiused counterbore cutter (it is not a job for a hand file).
