These super-duty ARP Pro Series rod bolts are constructed of space-age ARP3.5® alloy steel, heat-treated to 260,000+ psi tensile strength. The high cobalt content helps these bolts to endure heat and stress that would destroy even high-performance chrome moly rod bolts. This alloy is also better able to resist corrosion and hydrogen embrittlement. As with all ARP bolts, the threads are rolled (not cut) after heat treatment (not before) for superior accuracy and strength. Put it all together and the result is a connecting rod bolt suitable for Formula 1, NASCAR, or IndyCar.
These "general replacement" cap screw-type bolts are designed for steel connecting rods. The 1.600 inch long under-head length includes 0.600" thread length (3/8-24 threads) and 0.145" grip (3/8" OD unthreaded) length. The remainder of the shank between the threads and the grip is undercut for optimum clamping force. The head takes a 7/16" 12-point wrench, but has a full 0.565" diameter bearing surface. The head measures just 0.365" tall for windage tray clearance. This size is especially suited to Carillo rods, but they will fit others as well. Sold in pairs (enough for one rod).
