We now offer a stock steering rack in order to avoid the long lead times required on custom-made racks. After many years of ordering these racks we've found a common size that was frequently ordered. That size is now available as a stocking item for immediate delivery. The specifications for this rack are as follows: A=18" B=13" C=10" D=1.5" T=1/2-20 (see drawing). The rack travels 2.54 inches for each full revolution of the pinion, with 3 inches of total rack travel. 9/16x36 spline pinion, lightweight aluminum alloy housing, and steel rack bar. This rack is an excellent choice for original construction such as sports racers and Formula SAE cars. Weighs just 5 pounds.

Whether you choose a stock rack off the shelf or a Custom Steering Rack (Part No. 1800) made to your specifications, you will get a top quality unit engineered for smooth operation and long life. Unlike most racks which bend the rack towards the pinion to achieve optimum backlash, this design moves the pinion towards the rack in an eccentric housing. This has the obvious advantage of a much freer running rack and longer bearing life. Soft felt seals further enhance bearing life without adding friction.

Titan steering rack

I'm very happy with this fine item that I'm using to replace a damaged modified Triumph steering rack. A nice upgrade.

Smooth running, just needs boots

Very smooth action unlike racks with spring loaded pucks to takeup the backlash, will be great for my special construction project. Machining looks great and overall a very nice piece. Was happy to get some rack stops included with the rack. I only wish there were some rubber bellows sold here for it to keep the dirt out but I will try to adapt some. My first experience with this rack was in an FSAE car and I was very pleased with the feel, even after years of student maintenance there was no backlash and it ran so smooth that if the rack was held sideways the rack would fall under its own weight, unlike Porsche 911 racks which I also considered for my project. I also like the mounting scheme for the Titan rack which allows very secure lateral location on the housing shoulders with the ability to rotate the rack to the needed angle.
