This compact but powerful Tilton XLT gear-reduction starter fits many applications that can't be accommodated with the original Tilton Super Starter (Part No. 1165-002). It is designed to take the place of the original Lucas inertia-type starter originally fitted to many FF1600, F2000, and S2000 cars.

This starter is specifically designed for MK5 and MK8/9 gearboxes commonly found on Formula Fords. The housing can be clocked to 15 different positions (24 degree increments) on the mounting flange so the solenoid can clear obstructions. Weighs only 7 lbs -- 35% lighter than the original Super Starter!

Note: This starter is designed to fit most FF1600/FF2000/S2000 chassis with the common 2 1/8" thick adapter plate. It will not fit most chassis with the oil tank between the engine and transmission (including '90 and up Van Diemen, Reynard, and Swift).

The Tilton is compact and powerful, but won't stand up to the vibration of the Kent 1600 (Tilton's own assessment). The first one lasted 6 events before the brush assembly vibrated apart. This purchase replaces the broken unit. The broken unit was repaired at a Tilton approved shop and will now be the spare.
