This seal kit includes the base seal and two piston seals for our FF1600 Hydraulic Release Bearing Kit, Part No. 163-55. This kit is a popular retrofit on many FF1600 with Hewland Mk-Series transaxles. It was also the OEM clutch release on Swift DB-5 (S2000), DB-6 (F2000), and some DB-4 (FA).
If you find that you have to replace these seals frequently, check the condition of the piston and try a new Replacement Bearing for FF1600 Hydraulic Release (Part No. 163-61, sold separately). When this bearing starts to wear out, it seizes and spins the piston, which can cause the seals to pull out of the bore. If this goes on too long, the piston can spin enough that deep grooves can be gouged in it. A grooved piston will not seal, even with new seals.
The seals in this kit fit the Saab 900 clutch slave (hydraulic release bearing). We also offer a Seal Kit for Saab 9000 Hydraulic Release (Part No. 3523-307). The Saab 900 HRB is identified by the two ports which are offset to one side of the input shaft. The Saab 9000 HRB (popular in Formula Atlantic, specifically Ralt RT40-RT41 and some Swift DB-4) has the two ports centered between the two top mounting bolts and angled slightly forward.
Note: Although the AP CP3959 was designed to be a direct replacement for the Saab 900 slave, these seals may not work in the AP cylinder.
