Alpinestars designed the Radar shoe specifically for professional pit crews. The Radar carries full FIA homologation for use in the hot pits at international races, but the sole is considerably thicker than a driving shoe to provide the support and comfort needed to get through a 24-hour race.

The leather uppers are extensively perforated for ventilation. The v2 generation features much heavier reinforcement around the toe and heel than before. The outer sole is also wider and more supportive to minimize the chance of rolling and ankle when dashing around a car during a stop. The lace-up closure is supplemented by a hook-and-loop ankle strap like on Alpinestars driving shoes, but the shape of the Radar has been tuned for comfort while squatting, kneeling, and running during pit stops. A full fire-retardant lining provides protection in the event of a refueling accident.
