Motul Break-In Oil is a mineral-based 10W-40 engine oil formulated to satisfy API SJ/SF (and older) standards. The API SJ standard is appropriate for engines manufactured prior to 2001. The high zinc content (in the form of ZDDP) helps to cushion and protect solid lifters and pushrods in older engines, but will damage catalytic converters. This is why oils conforming to API SK and later have significantly less ZDDP and are only recommended for more modern engine designs.
Break-In Oil includes extra pressure additives to protect the edges of high-lift camshaft lobes from damage during the critical first few minutes of operation. Special friction modifiers help to make the break-in process more efficient. Motul Break-In Oil is appropriate for all 4-stroke engines, including air-cooled engines and modified or high-output engines. It can be mixed with synthetic or conventional engine oils.
