Red Line Oils allow 1 to 3% more horsepower output than petroleum oils of similar viscosity while providing much more protection. Red Line racing oils also feature more ZDDP than street oils for increased protection of solid lifters and flat tappets. Even though these racing oils are formulated as straight grades, their inherent multigrade behavior provides low temperature properties that are similar to petroleum-based multigrade oils, but without the unstable polymer thickeners. To reduce the chance of detonation, these racing oils contain very low amounts of detergent and are therefore not recommended for street use.

Viscosity equivalents and recommendations:

• SAE 5 (0W5): NHRA Stock and Super Stock (for use with oil temps under 150°F only).
• SAE 10 (0W10): NHRA Comp Eliminator, Jr. Drag; also used for dyno testing by Pro Stock teams.
• SAE 20 (5W20): Drag racing and single-lap qualifying, where the lowest internal friction is desired.
• SAE 30 (10W30): Sustained high-speed use in well-balanced racing engines where low internal friction is desired.
• SAE 40 (15W40): High-temperature use or when widely varying engine RPM may be encountered. Recommended for road racing, especially in classes where engine blueprinting is not allowed.
• SAE 50 (15W50): Extremely high temperatures, wide bearing clearances, or when engine durability is the primary concern.
• SAE 60 (20W60): Alcohol burning engines in drag racing (Top Alcohol, Pro Mod, AHDRA Nitro bikes) and tractor pulling.
