Grease for CV Joints, Tripod Joints, and Wheel Bearings
CV joints and tripod joints require very different grease. Using the wrong grease can quickly destroy either type of axle joint.
CV joints typically use 6 large ball bearings to transmit torque. This results in very high loads concentrated on a very small area. This type of joint requires a special grease that can handle the heavy spot loading.
Tripod Joints have many small needle roller bearings inside each of the three rolling lobes. This reduces the spot loading, eliminating the need for such a heavy grease. More importantly, the very fine, tight tolerances do not tolerate the solid additives typically used in CV joints.

GKN CV Joint Grease is developed specifically for motorsports. Many pro race teams insist on genuine GKN grease. 80g squeeze tube needs no application tools.
Grease for 6-Ball CV Joints
These heavier greases are specifically formulated for the high spot loads encountered in CV joints. They are too thick to use in needle-roller tripod joints.
Grease for Needle-Roller Tripod Joints
Tripod Joint Grease is specifically formulated for the tighter tolerances and lower spot loads encountered in needle-roller tripod joints. This type of grease is not heavy enough to prevent galling in conventional 6-ball CV joints.
