What Line Goes Where on a 5-Port Pump?
When connecting the oil hoses to our FF1600 Side-Mount 5-Port Dry Sump Oil Pump, it's easy to forget which hose goes where. The trouble is, if you get it wrong, you could destroy a fresh engine in a matter of minutes!
Points to remember:
1. The Scavenge stage is farthest from the engine block; the Pressure stage is next to the engine block. (Scavenge has only inlet from the pan and outlet to the tank, but Pressure also has a third port for the pressurized oil to enter the block.)
2. The Scavenge stage ports (only) are labeled In and Out. The Pressure stage inlet (from the oil tank) is closest to the Scavenge stage inlet.
3. The inlet and outlet ports are on opposite sides. The Pressure stage outlet port is the one directly opposite the Pressure stage inlet port.
4. The last port is simply a passage that connects the pressurized oil to an oil gallery opening in the block. If you look carefully, you can actually see through this port to the opening on the back side of the pump.
Looking at the pump installed on an engine (pressure relief adjuster at roughly the 6:00 position), clockwise from the left: Scavenge Inlet (from the oil pan), Pressure Inlet (from the bottom of the oil tank), Return to Block (pressurized oil exiting the filter), Scavenge Outlet (to the oil cooler and/or oil tank), Pressure Outlet (to the oil filter).
