Auto Racing Helmets, FIA 8859-2024 Approved
8859-2024 is the latest FIA rating for automotive racing helmets. This international helmet rating has been developed to provide the best safety protection for auto racing drivers who are restrained in their vehicles. FIA 8859-2024 helmets are tested for impact protection and flame retardance, and additional tests ensure that the factory-installed M6 threaded inserts can withstand the loads from a frontal head restraint. An FIA-rated helmet may not meet DOT specifications for street use, such as on motorcycles.
The most current Snell SA2025 standard aligns the testing procedures even more closely to the FIA 8859 standard; however, FIA homologation is a separate process. Not all SA2025 helmets are submitted to the FIA for approval, and vice-versa. Most auto racing organizations in the USA require the Snell standard, and some also accept the FIA standard. Most organizations outside the USA require the FIA standard, and some also accept the Snell standard.
